A technology revolution in cultural spaces

On 14-15 November 2024 Warsaw will become the capital of modern museology. The Royal Castle in Warsaw and Warsaw University of Technology invite you to the exceptional "Museum of Tomorrow. New technologies in museums – prospects and challenges" conference, gathering industry leaders and visionaries bringing museums into the digital era.

This event is not only a meeting of experts but also an opportunity to reflect on the future of cultural spaces in the context of dynamically developing technologies. Speakers include outstanding specialists from Poland and abroad. Specialists will share their experiences in digitisation, innovative presentation methods and creating immersive experiences that answer the challenges of contemporary audiences.

Using new technologies in museology

Conference participants include Dr Grazyna Bastek from the National Museum in Warsaw, who combines art history with modern technologies in her work, and Dr Tomasz Bednarz from the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk, creator of the award-winning "Virtual Wreck Park of Gdansk Bay" project. Also noteworthy is Eryk Bunsch from the Museum of King Jan III's Palace in Wilanow, who will speak about the revolution in monument conservation through precise 3D scanning.

Challenges and prospects for the future of museums

The event will host numerous discussion panels on topics including the newest trends in museology, such as:

  • "A museum for everyone" – how technologies can increase the accessibility of cultural institutions and enable broader interaction with visitors,

  • "Real space vs cyberspace" – whether new forms of exhibition are a necessary must or just an excess of technical solutions,

  • "New ways of bringing museum narratives to life" – how multisensory technologies and immersive art change the way we perceive history.

Speakers and innovators of the museum future

The conference will also host innovation leaders such as Dr Katarzyna Chowaniec-Tobiasz from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, specialising in documenting historic objects with laser scanning. Sonia Kisza, educator and founder of the popular "Histeria sztuki" profile uncovering forgotten female narratives in art history, will also share her experiences.
