Do Mineral Cosmetics Care for Our Skin?

Have you ever wondered how many hours daily, days yearly, months, finally years you wear makeup? Women generally care for skin, cleanse thoroughly, use devices and gadgets, pat in creams and visit beauty salons. And daily getting ready for work they apply makeup. Colour cosmetics directly contact skin despite creams or primers. Have you wondered, choosing another powder or foundation, whether it affects skin condition? Could it simultaneously care for it? Cosmetologist Anna Saran Michalczyk answers our questions.
What is mineral makeup?
- Mineral cosmetics are no market novelty, but the current trend for these products keeps growing. Women love minerals for healing and beautifying properties. For no heavy mask on skin, lightness and naturalness. Main products are foundations, bb or cc creams and powders. Of course we also find concealers, eyeshadows, bronzers, blushes or highlighters.
What do mineral cosmetics contain? How do they differ from traditional colour cosmetics?
- Working daily in clinics, at cosmetology chairs I diagnose many problematic skins. I myself have oily, acne-prone skin. I arrange care plans and started experimenting with mineral, healthy makeup. And it was a bullseye! Zero mask effect, zero cookie effect, clogged pores or extra breakouts. Mineral foundations enjoy most interest, found in powder or pressed forms. Main ingredients are mica, minerals, iron, zinc or titanium oxides. The last three are natural sunscreens, but using them does not exempt us from SPF cream under makeup. Moreover, some contain care ingredients like ceramides, retinol, shea butter, salicylic acid, kaolin sulphur, aloe or algae extracts. They contain no silicones, parabens, talc or fragrance ingredients. Women love mineral cosmetics for exactly this, naturalness, healthy ingredients and low skin irritation potential. So each of us, regardless of skin type, can use mineral products. The cosmetics market already offers wide powder ranges from hydrating to very mattifying for problematic skin.
How to apply minerals? Many women accuse mineral cosmetics of difficult application.
- Indeed applying foundation is surely much simpler, but believe me it is a matter of time and practice. It needs no special skills. Definitely invest in a good flat-top brush easily applying minerals to skin. And note two mineral application methods – wet and dry. For women used to strong coverage, rest assured you can apply more than one powder layer, controlling coverage. Moreover, I recommend wet mineral application. Moisten skin with essence, toner or hydrolate and spread powder with a brush. The second way wets the brush, then applies cosmetics. Experiment and find your favourite way.

Which cosmetics brand to choose? The market offers more mineral cosmetics due to steadily growing interest.
- And this delights me as a cosmetologist educating how to get healthy, radiant skin. First I recommend brands – Pixie Cosmetics or Anabelle Minerals. Recently my skin got on well with PUR cosmetics, vegan and cruelty free. At Douglas find BareMinerals or Nude by Nature. American Jane Iredale or Dermaquest brands are also mineral cosmetics hits. Noteworthy are Pixie Cosmetics primer and PUR pressed powder. The primer is a neutral clay powder, evening tone and absorbing excess T-zone sebum – a choice for combination, oily, seborrheic and acne skin. It can also top off makeup. A great complement is PUR pressed powder, standing out with consistency among other cosmetics. Very easy to apply, pleasantly soft and hydrating. No fear – no dry patches or visible flakes. An idea for all skin types, especially dry and sensitive.
Can mineral cosmetics be mixed and combined?
- Of course! You can buy primer, foundation and top from different brands. These cosmetics beautifully combine, with compatible formulas. Importantly, find ideal combinations for your skin. So each of us feels in such makeup like in a second skin.
