Ecology is for kids! Building proper attitudes!

Caring for the environment gains value. Awareness of its aspects forms lifelong, yet childhood is when humans are most sensitive to the surrounding world. That is why building proper ecological attitudes is worth starting early. Every eco-habit, even tiny, brings positive effects for next generations!

How to talk to kids teaching nature empathy?

Some tips.

First – communing with nature sensitises

Shared environment discussions are key to shaping proper attitudes and ecological values. Remember developing a child's respect for nature works better beyond handing facts. Tell the youngest about nature's beauty while letting them experience it. Great chances to admire the world are shared activities in close nature contact – forest, park or garden trips. Perfect places to watch plants and animals, explaining how they live, eat and why they matter.

Second – pass knowledge while modelling it

Kids absorb most from parents. A guardian switching off lights, turning off unused water, sorting rubbish while explaining why, hugely shapes children's ecological attitudes – now and in adult life.

Third – spark imagination, evoke positive emotions

Kids are little observers open to the world. Parents should talk with them lots, creating chances to experiment, experience, explore and create. Shared bike trips out of town, outdoor play, planting, rescuing snails from sidewalks, forest cleanups, building insect or bird houses and nature observations are good eco-empathy builders. Outdoor joy, nature sounds or barefoot grass walking bring far more positive effects than just telling about them. Perhaps – through inspiring actions – parents and kids will invent home or school changes for greener places?

Learning nature fascinates kids when knowledge comes interestingly. This is why multimedia teaching aids – animated films, fairy tales, songs and audiobooks developed by experts are super helpful. The "Kubus's Nature Friends" programme blends learning with imagination and fun.
