A woman is feminine when delicacy dominates her character, among others

So declare 91% of women and 86% of men. An SW Research survey commissioned by Gatta clearly shows both sexes perceive women's inner character traits through social stereotypes. What role behaviour or individual personality play in defining inner femininity is the subject of Gatta's nationwide social campaign "Femininity Is Me".

Which traits do Polish women and men associate with femininity?

Society declares a clear split of women's inner traits into more and less feminine. Most society views femininity through sensitivity and, per 89% of female and 84% of male respondents, caring. It means for Poles a woman is feminine when delicacy, sensitivity and caring guide her behaviour, actions or thinking – stereotypically entrenched "typically female" traits.

Which character traits does Polish society see as unfeminine?

For 18% of women and 32% of men, dominance is definitely unfeminine, as is strength per 13% of female and 37% of male respondents. Plus, per 6% of Polish women and 22% of men, a woman's courage shows lack of femininity. Note our society agrees less on unfeminine inner traits than on feminine ones. Men are more convinced a woman standing out with strength or courage cannot be called feminine. It may stem from surveyed "unfeminine" traits stereotypically linking to male image in Polish society – explains Edward Korbel, SW Research sociologist and researcher. He adds, I feel women and men share decidedly more traits, e.g. behaviour patterns. We should not seek differences, divide and assign people to society-made categories based on character traits alone.

"Femininity Is Me"

Gatta stresses it opposes stereotypical femininity framings present in our society. Brand-commissioned opinion research shows femininity still defined through stereotyped inner traits. Still, remember whether a woman is caring, sensitive or strong reflects character or behaviour in situations, which should not affect society's perception of her.
