Nastassja Kinski: Actress, Model and Cinema Icon

Nastassja Kinski is a German actress and model famous for roles in films such as Tess, Cat People and Paris, Texas. She played in both dramas and comedies, showing her talent and charm. Born in 1961 in Berlin as the daughter of famous actor Klaus Kinski, with whom she had a difficult, stormy relationship. Her mother was Ruth Brigitte Tocki, Kinski's second wife. In 1971 her parents divorced, and Nastassja grew up in poverty and loneliness.

Nastassja Kinski started working as a model in Germany at 13. That same year she debuted in Wim Wenders' film "The Wrong Move", playing a mute juggler living with an older man. She had her first shoot for French Vogue magazine in 1976 at 15. The session was guest-directed by Roman Polanski, who was impressed by her beauty and fascinated by her.

The 1980s

In 1976 Roman Polanski invited the young actress to Paris and provided her acting education at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Polanski cast her in the main role of the screen adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess, which brought her international fame and a Golden Globe for best actress. At the time there were rumours of a romance between 15-year-old Nastassja and 43-year-old Polanski, but she denied it in later interviews.

She was also frequently photographed and appeared on magazine covers. One of her most famous photos is the one lying nude with a snake on her neck, taken by Richard Avedon in 1981.

The actress's love life

Nastassja Kinski also had many romances and relationships with other film and music stars. She was married to Egyptian film producer Ibrahim Moussa, with whom she has two children: son Aljosha and daughter Sonja. They divorced in 1992. She was later linked with actors including Gerard Depardieu, Vincent Spano, Rob Lowe, Jon Voight, Milla Jovovich and Quincy Jones, with whom she has daughter Kenya. In 2009 she announced a relationship with actor Christopher Lambert, but they split in 2014.

Recent years of activity

In 2006 she appeared in David Lynch's Inland Empire, and in 2016 in the Singaporean film Wanton Mee. In 2012 she received a César award for lifetime achievement. She is also involved in charity and ecological work. In 2010 she became a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
